Teeth Grinding (Bruxism) / Jaw Clenching (Masseter Jaw Muscle Relaxation)

Bruxism is a habit which involves excessively grinding of the teeth and clenching the jaw.  It occurs in 8-10% of the population and most common among 25-44 year olds.  Bruxism can cause a series of related problems:

  • Tooth wear and breakage
  • Jaw pain
  • Migraines, headaches and earache
  • Sleep disturbances and insomnia
  • Over developed jaw muscles making the face appear more square or swollen

Botulinum toxin can be used to treat Bruxism, by injecting into the masseter muscle which moves the jaw.
