Filler lip injections is a procedure that restores youth, volume and shape in lips of any age. Lip fillers consist of synthesised hyaluronic acid (HA or sodium hyaluronate), which is a natural component of lip collagen. Hyaluronic acid holds water which imparts volume and hydrates the lips. Lip augmentation procedures use the inherent water-binding properties of HA to restore a natural volumised look to the lips.
Fillers like Restylane or Juvederm can be injected in the vermillion border, giving more definition, at the wet and dry border for a plump look or directly into the red of the lip for sensual Hollywood looking lips. The upper or lower lip may be treated alone or together with filler or botulinum toxin to smooth out smoker’s lines (perioral wrinkles). Botulinum toxin injections can be applied to the smoker’s lines of the upper lip or chin, or to the depressor angulis oris muscle (to lift the corners of the mouth) they can be performed at the same time with the lip filler augmentation for an additional price.
Hyaluronic acid fillers last from 5-9 months depending on how each individual responds to the filler ingredients. Some people degrade the filler faster than others.
They are all fully biodegradable and will break down gradually over time. As the absorption times differ with individuals, how the area looks and feels is the best indicator that a top-up is needed.
